Public History Concentration
The Public History concentration (13 to 16 credit hours) provides students a credential that indicates a focused course of study in the theories, examples, and related methods of interpreting the past in settings such as museums, historic sites, archives, commemorations, and cultural heritage environments.
Students in this concentration will graduate with intellectual and methodological skills that will enhance their understanding of historical practice, cultural heritage, and memory in the context of contemporary society. Students interested in a potential career or graduate study in public history, museums, historic preservation, libraries, and archives will especially benefit from the program.
The Department will consider petitions for courses not listed in the program requirements as appropriate. In such cases, students may be asked to provide a syllabus or other supporting materials.
Internship
- Students must be registered for, or have completed, HIS 305 in order to enroll in IPL 300 or IPL 301.
